深圳市平面设计协会成立于 1995 年，是国内首个非牟利的平面设计专业组织， 旨在展现杰出的设计成就、鼓励和促进专业创作和探索的学术精神，推动社会对设计的关注和平面设计发展。促进协会和国际专业机构的学术交流。协会尊重每一位会员的同时让会员分享协会的荣耀、并努力成为观念开放和领先的学术研究者和专业实践者。
1992年，深圳市平面设计协会的创立者就发起了中国第一个平面设计专业大展“平面设计在中国展”，在国内外产生了广泛的影响，成为平面设计在中国兴起的标志性展览，之后深圳的平面设计事业蓬勃发展，专业的设计师队伍迅速壮大，于1995年正式成立深圳市平面设计协会。
深圳市平面设计协会成立之后，成功举办了GDC平面设计在中国 96 、03、05、07、09、11、13、15、17、19、21展。从2005年开始确立为双年竞赛展览项目，期间还组织了各类展览和学术交流活动。如沟通海报展、in china邀请展、法国当代设计展，X展以及改革开放三十年创作展、GDC国际国内巡回展等一系列高水平的展览，与此同时协会每年还组织出版画册，年鉴和刊物。使平面设计得到了很好的推广和社会认知。在深圳被授予联合国设计之都之际，平面设计更成为深圳设计的行业代表得到了广泛赞赏，深圳市平面设计协会先后与美国、德国、法国、英国、日本、意大利、丹麦、韩国等国家进行了交流，并在多个国家举办展览，让中国的设计走向了世界。
深圳市平面设计的会员现已逾有三百多位会员。协会的会员多次获得过世界各地设计赛事和国际展览的奖项，取得了享誉国际的设计艺术成就。同时，深圳设计师的设计服务遍及全国的大型企业集团和文化机构，为中国特别是深圳的经济建设与企业发展作出重大贡献，产生了巨大的经济与社会价值。
在新的历史时期， 深圳市平面设计协会将继往开来，秉承协会的优秀传统和专业精神，坚持专业的品质追求和学术精神，积极推动中国平面设计的发展。
Shenzhen Graphic Design Association (hereinafter referred to as “SGDA”), established in 1995, is the first nonprofit professional organization on graphic design in China, aiming to exhibit the excellent design achievement, encourage and advance the academic spirit of professional creation and exploration, promote the society to focus on design, improve the development of graphic design, and academic exchanges between SGDA and other international professional organizations. SGDA respects every member, shares the honor with them and strives to be the academic researcher and practitioner with innovative and leading ideas.
Since 1992, the founder of SGDA has initiated the first professional exhibition on graphic design, “Graphic Design in China (hereinafter referred to as GDC)”, having great influence at home and abroad and becoming the symbol one in China. After that, the graphic design industry in Shenzhen has been flourishing, with more and more professional designers, so SGDA was established formally in 1995.
SGDA has held the GDC 96, 03, 05, 07, 09, 11, 13,15,17,19 and 21 successfully after its establishment. It started to set a 2-year competition exhibition from 2005 and also organized various exhibitions and academic exchanges like Communication Poster Exhibition, GDC Invitational Exhibition, Modern Design Exhibition in France, X Exhibition, Creation Exhibition over 30-year Reform & Opening-up and other top-grade ones. In addition, it publishes albums of painting, almanacs and periodicals annually to make graphic design popular and accepted by the society. On the occasion that Shenzhen was granted “City of Design” by UN, graphic design won a wide reputation as the representative design industry in Shenzhen. SGDA has communicated with USA, Germany, France, UK, Japan, Italy, Denmark and South Korea successively, and held exhibitions in many countries to make Chinese design go globally.
Nowadays SGDA has over 200 members, who have won prizes of design competitions around the world and international exhibitions for many times, and gained internationally-renowned design artistic achievements. Besides, design service of Shenzhen designers, throughout large-scale enterprise groups and cultural institutions in China, made great contribution to economic construction and enterprise development of China, especially Shenzhen, bringing enormous economic and social value.
SGDA will continue with the past and open up the future, carrying on its fine tradition and professional spirit, persisting in the pursuing for professional quality and academic spirit to promote the development of graphic design actively in the new era.
